This four-part series is a history of the transformation of a small island nation into an industrial superpower. It is an engaging portrait of a Queen who ruled an empire on which the “sun never setâ€, spanning the globe – with a fifth of the world’s population as her subjects. The figures who shaped a distinctively British imperialism – William Gladstone, Benjamin Disraeli, David Livingstone, Cecil Rhodes and Victoria’s husband Prince Albert – have their stories told.
